Regulatory defence

The introduction of the Securities and Futures Ordinance on 1st April 2003 gave the SFC new and enhanced powers to investigate suspected regulatory offences.  The SFO also increased the SFC’s powers to impose suspensions and fines on those found to have committed regulatory breaches.

Since that time, the enforcement division of the SFC has more than doubled in size and is continuing to grow.  The number of investigations is increasing.  The SFC has stated that it will continue to view surveillance and enforcement as a priority.
